“The Fuehrer Bunker – A Virtual Reconstruction” is a project by
Keystone Animation Ltd.

The goal of this project is to document the history of the Berlin Fuehrer Bunker. Christoph Neubauer
(creator of “The Berlin Government District” and “Albert Speer’s Neue Reichskanzlei”) did extensive
research to gather as much information as possible about the construction and layout of the Fuehrer Bunker.
He then studied and compared hundreds of photographs and plans to first-hand accounts of the bunker in the
memoirs and diaries of those who had used it during the war, as well as to the work of modern researchers
and academics. Neubauer worked with 3D Animators from Keystone Animation Ltd. to create a 1:1 virtual model
of the Bunker and the surrounding area. Through this recreation, it becomes possible to see each construction
phase of the bunker, as well as to understand its position relative to the surrounding buildings. As the model
is three- dimensional and in full colour, it brings to life a construction which was previously accessible only
through diagrammatic sketches and written descriptions. The history of the Fuehrer Bunker in Berlin does
not end with its abandonment at the end of World War Two. Many events in the intervening years related to
the bunker and the changing policies of the area. Thus a complete history of the Fuehrer Bunker in Berlin
brings us up to the present day. Keystone Animation plans to release three separate DVD documentaries
in 2007. Each documentary will describe a different time-span in the history of the Bunker.

Special thanks to the Berliner Unterwelten e.V. for their support in providing
access to their archives, as well as additional information.
